"Innovation in the world's second oldest profession"
Agustin Huneeus began his career in his home city of Santiago, Chile. He has dedicated his entire professional life to the wine industry. In 1960, he became CEO of Concha y Toro. Under his leadership, the winery grew to become Chile’s largest. In 1971, he moved to New York to head Seagram’s worldwide wine operations. In 1985, Mr. Huneeus became partner/acting president of Franciscan Estates. In 1999 he sold his interest in Franciscan Estates and created Huneeus Vintners, a company dedicated to fine wine properties. In 1996 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by Wine Spectator magazine for “significant and long-lasting contributions to the wine industry.” In 2008, the President of Chile awarded Agustin Huneeus that country’s highest civilian honor: the Servicios Meritorios a la Republica medal.
After graduating from UC Berkeley Agustin Francisco Huneeus moved to Chile, returning to CA two years later to become general manager of Estancia Estates. After receiving an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, he lead the sales/marketing team at Franciscan Estates, staying on as President/CEO when the company sold in 1999. In 2004 he joined his father to launch Huneeus Vintners, which included Quintessa, Flowers, Faust, Illumination and The Prisoner Wine Company (TPWC) from CA, and Veramonte, Primus, Ritual & Neyen from Chile. He grew TPWC until it sold to Constellation in April, 2016 with the Chilean portfolio being sold shortly thereafter, at which time Agustin Francisco became owner/partner of Huneeus Vintners. The same year he served as honorary chair of Auction Napa Valley, 20 years after his father held the same role in Napa Valley’s most distinguished charity event.
