I Planted a Bee Garden: Now What?

Instructor: Christine Casey, Ph.D., UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology, cacasey@ucdavis.edu

Location: UC Davis Bee Garden

Date of Event: Recorded lecture anytime followed by in-person October 29, 2022

Time of Event: 9am to 10:30am

Many California gardeners are removing their water-hungry turf and replacing it with lower-water plants that provide food and habitat for bees and other animals. But if all you know about garden maintenance is how to turn on the lawnmower, deciding what to plant and learning how to maintain it can be daunting.

Aimed at beginning bee gardeners, this class will cover the basics of turf conversion and weed control along with plant selection for bees and other pollinators. We’ll also cover maintenance of a turf yard compared to planted borders.

COVID safety: the lecture portion of the class will be pre-recorded and provided to participants in advance; the hands-on portion will take place at the UC Davis Bee Haven garden on October 29. Questions from the lecture may be brought to the hands-on class. This class will take place outside in the Haven garden with appropriate distancing and fully vaccinated instructors.
